Tournament Rundown - Des Moines Challenge

Tournament Rundown - Des Moines Challenge - Skyline Disc Golf

Round 1: Little known Silas Schultz ran out to an early lead after the first round. He finished the first day two strokes ahead of Paul McBeth, Ben Callaway, Albert Tamm and Zackeriath Johnson who were all tied for second at 7 under. Unfortunately, Silas couldn't continue on his tear after finishing even after the second round and 4 under in the final round. He Finished the tournament tied at a respectable 22nd.

Round 2: Paul McBeth continued to show why he is still the undisputed best player in the world by firing off one of two 10 under rounds on the day. Gavin Rathburn was the only other player to play 10 under. After the second day McBeast was sitting atop the leaderboard with Rathburn tied with Callaway for 2nd.

Round 3: Calvin Heimburg shot a blistering 13 under in the final round of the tournament besting the next best round by 2 strokes. Alas, that second best round was shot by McBeth who managed to stay out ahead of Calvin to claim his 1st DGPT title of the season.

Storylines

  • The young phenom, Gannon Buhr, continues to play well beyond his years finishing T12
  • Calvin Heimburg is still riding a season for the record books finishing inside the Top 5 for the 10th time this season
  • James Conrad came in flying high after his World Championship performance two weeks ago. Despite the euphoria he was never really in contention all weekend and finished tied for 8th.
  • Ben Callaway bounced back from a tough Worlds (T101 finish) to capture a top 5 finish
  • Brodie Smith continues to stick around. Finished a respectable 30th after a great 2nd round where he finished 9 under on the day. Playing par on the first day and only 2 under the last day didn't do him any favors, though. That said, he is still in the top 20 of the DGPT standings.
